Freecycle your old furniture

If you have ever thrown something out and thought “I’m sure someone could use this”, then Freecycle is for you. It’s free trade with the emphasis on ‘free’.

Freecycle is an internet exchange with lots of local groups run by volunteer moderators from those areas.

Posting an offer or wanted message is easy, whether it’s for a TV, a chair
or anything else.

The only rule is everything should be free and there is an etiquette of giving before taking.

In its first year, Freecycle went from a simple idea in the USA to having 100,000 members.

The first UK Freecycle group was set up in London in 2003 and there are now 459 groups across the country with over one million members in total.

“It’s as addictive as Ebay only better,” said Caroline Holding.

“I have given stuff away which I’d normally throw away and received things like a cooker which I badly needed but couldn’t afford on the high street.”
